Rocketships and APE and the Indie-Mart!

This is how I spent my summer vacation. There are so many many amazing things about this project! It's one of the coolest things I've ever done, and I got to meet and work with dozens of genuinely nifty people. As soon as I have my own pictures developed (yeah, I know), I will post them, but for now, get thee to a flickr search!

In other news, I am going to have a table at the Alternative Press Expo in October. It's a two-day show, and it should be very very cool indeed. Come look at comics and zines and ponder the wonderousness of the crazy octopus hats I'll have there. October 17th and 18th at the giant Concourse building on Brannan and 7th in San Francisco (right where My Bloody Valentine played last year, oooh). Admission is $10 for one day or $15 for both (or free if you went to Comic Con this year and still have your badge).

Had a fantastic time at the Indie-Mart in August, and actually sold out of octopi! I'll be at the Indie-Mart again on November 8th. This is a very fun outdoor show with a relaxed beery party atmosphere, and I like it a whole big bunch. More details as it gets closer!

Today was sortof a big day for me, as I finally got my California Seller's Permit. Now I'm real!

And that's all for now.

Wowee!

Well, it's been a bit of a whirlwind lately.
New and nifty job, Renegade Craft Fair, RGRocketeering, and we're moving on Saturday!
So, please to forgive the sparseness.
The Renegade Craft Fair was *excellent*. They let me bring my silly ice cream cart, and I had a great time, met all sorts of neat people, and saw a bunch of friends. I still have rather more ice cream kits than I'd planned on owning, but I'm alright with that.
Pix soon!

Soft blueberries

I found this yarn on Saturday, it's blue and aqua and watery and fuzzy. I think this one is pretty much exactly what I want the cute ones to look like. Now I just have to build a good monster...

mwahahahahahahahahahahaha...

The very best buttery marshmallow ghost ever

I do believe that every single attendee of Sunday's event picked up this guy and squeaked. He has a new home, now, too!

Pink ghostie

SK's zombie

This one went to the Indie Mart and found a new home!

Devil cat monster

(I really really want a better digital camera, that can handle red things without freaking all the way out.)

I am totally besmittened with this one. The body is about the same size as an apricot, cranky teeth, and horns-or-ears. I believe I will make this one again.

A new giant fuzzy one

Here's the latest big fuzzy one. Very soft, lots of tidepool colors.

Tuesday's coming

Here is the fruit of a little bit of homework procrastination. He'll be on sale at the Indie Mart, I'm sure. Fuzzy with little bits of green, somewhat bigger than a softball...

ghostie and hmmmm

Here's a pair of new guys, both using yarn I haven't used before. The peachy rusty one is made with Crystal Palace Puffin yarn, and the green-eyed cream one is made with this strange acrylic-alpaca-wool-nylon blend yarn I found.

Made for the upcoming Indie Mart, yay!

It rarely rains in dorklandia

I've been wishing for rain all day.
What with the mild concussion, the start of school, and a fairly sudden job interview, I'm slightly overstimulated.
Also, today, I looked, and someone has registered 'dorklandia.blogspot.com', which is funny and weird at the same time. I wonder if he saw my stuff at a craft fair somewhere and decided he must live there too.
No octopix today, I'm still a bit foggy from my great big bump-on-the-head.

Maker Faire kit pix

Here are pictures of the bomb pop, popsicle, and drumstick.

Maker Faire pix

Here are some pictures from the Maker Faire this past weekend. We had a very silly time selling felt popsicle and ice cream cone kits out of my little souped up laundry cart.
The bags are full of polyfill, not cotton candy. We didn't take the pole with us on Day 2, since we'd disappointed so many kids on Saturday. Still, I think it was pretty funny, and a lot of other folks did too.
I put the bomb pop and popsicle on the back of my jacket, and think I want to decorate about a zillion more hoodies, it was so much fun and so rewarding. Simple lines can convey so much!
Other notables: I sold out of hot pink popsicle kits. I wonder if that's because I had a hot pink one on display. I really really wanted to try displaying a different color on Sunday, to see if it changed the sales, but I was pretty well worn out Saturday night. Next time. I also sold maybe two bomb pop kits the whole weekend, so let me know if you want one.

Maker Faire!

The Maker Faire is happening Saturday May 30 (tomorrow!) and Sunday May 31.

I'll be there with my little ice cream cart, selling kits to make popsicles and drumsticks and bomb pops. Should be a great time, and I will post pix once I have some decent, not-in-my-destroyed-sewing-room ones.

Once this is done, I should be back to my regularly scheduled octoposts. Hope to see you there!

it's my birthday!

we got back from Hawaii a couple of days ago, and I'm still a little vacation-addled.
Today is my birthday! It's been quite nice so far, lots and lots of wellwishing from all sorts of amazing people. I feel lucky!

Things and other things!

Well, I don't have any new pictures today. My current yarn-sink is a bit involved, maybe I'll get it done this weekend.

But, there are exciting things coming up! I'll be at the Maker Faire at the end of May, with my possibly-too-ambitious ice cream cart project. More details as I have more documentation, I don't want to blurt a whole bunch of stuff and then not follow through.

Also in my immediate future: job interviews, college re-admissions appointments, and a show at the Fox Theater. Plus paddle boats, sushi, and ducks. Oh, and jello. And felt. And ukulele!

verrrrrry tiny fuzz

This one was sort of challenging overall, both to make and to photograph.

I don't have the label from the yarn anymore, but I used a C hook and 4.5mm eyes for this guy. I think this is the smallest one I've made so far, and it'll probably go into the oddities box.

made at lanesplitters

Here's a small one I made the other night while I was at Lanesplitter's.

Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride worsted in onyx, 6mm eyes.

pie hat + giant zombie octo

Melanie made this hat for the pi(e) party last Saturday. Somehow... it wound up on this guy. I have the giggles something awful. Heehee.

fuzzy and lightweight and a charming fascinator.

devilishish

devilish

this one just makes me happy

bender

At first, this one really reminded me of Bender from Futurama. On reflection, it looks entirely too worried to look like Bender. Poor thing.

kelpy

I'm a bit smitten with this one, I think it's the eyes.

I would look so cool in blacklight

little blueish wistful one

rocketshiptopus?

Heh.

cute blue kitty

This is my favorite kitty so far. Two-tone blue yarn, green safety eyes. Awww.

enormous green zombi

This is the largest one I've made so far. Two and a half skeins of yarn, he weighs about two pounds all by himself. Pretty creepy! Sewn felt eyes and polyfill, everything else is wool/acrylic yarn. Grrrrr!
